What is the difference between strategies and big ideas? What is a mathematical structure and how is structure related to big ideas, generalization, and the development of deep understanding? In this session we will explore these questions and examine how to notice important moments for inviting generalization and the development of mathematical structures—places to take “unfinished learning” to “deep” learning and how to do so.
